Mr Frisk ridden by Marcus Armytage wins the 1990 Grand National from Durham Edition who was finishing second for the second time.
The Greatest Horse Race in the World with outstanding commentary and coverage from the BBC. Unfortunately not the same anymore.
Really incredible run from Lord Gyllene here. Has a horse ever led pretty much the entire race and won? I can't imagine so
Was with family as a kid on family retreat my sister picked out royal athlete at 66/1 2 days before .. my dad put £5 on it for us as a treat jumping for joy lol what a horse!
It's nice to see the jockeys congratulating each other at the end.
Felt bad for Rust Never Sleeps watching on. About to be put down. I’m no animal welfare person and I love the Grand National, just felt bad for him watching on with literally only minutes to live 😢
What a great winner. Lord Gyllene looked fresh as a daisy at the end. He could have kept on running. Credit to the trainer and the jockey. Great win☺️
Master Oats was still immense that day. Lumbered with 11-10 on his back (giving 18lbs to winner and even more to most others) over a distance about a mile too far from ideal with ground not likely suiting either…end of a really tough season including only 3 weeks between this and a Gold Cup? Such a class horse that season.
Kim bailey fucked up with master oats
My uncle rode the 3rd Docklands express he would always tell me when he was on a winner
⛅ SUNY bay came 2nd 1n 1997 1998📖📖📺😃📖📖🤓😁🎶
Best round of jumping ever

Amazing ❤
RIGHT ROUGH QUEST IS A TERRIFIC RUN.
Must be the classiest Grand National of the 90s at least. 2 previous grand national winners. 3 if you count the Void 3 Gold Cup Winners. 3 RSA Chase Winners 1 Hennessy Gold Cup winner. 1 Irish Grand National Winner 1 Whitbred Gold Cup Winner 1 Welsh Grand National Winner That year’s Gold Cup 1st 2nd and 3rd
The way Dunwoody walks away from Smiths Band is sickening, not even a 2nd look, I'm no animal right activist I actually work in racing a couple years now and ride out every morning but that's a horror show, rip smiths band.
I hated him as a jockey. Watching him using the whip the way he did used to turn my stomach. Reading his "Obsessed" book made me feel even worse ! The success of him (and Adrian Maguire) sent out too many wrong messages for me. Thank goodness we don't get much riding like that now.
He did go back towards the horse, and he knew there was nothing he could do, as the horse Broke its neck, and instantly died. It’s apart of racing, especially in the Grand National. Get over it!
@@paulthurgood7822 cheer up Paul, don't get your knickers in a twist👍🏼
@@paulthurgood7822 Cold hearted bastard.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you look at him as the race goes on, in the background he was stood in shock with his hands on his head. i do a agree though he’s a twat. i know the woman who rode him at home, absolute machine he was.
Get your heads down ORF the tape!
Sun Bay ran a nive race, also. The gray finished second, far back, but was near the front the entire distance. Just couldn't catch the Lard in the final stretch!!
Sunny bay excellent race really good
Backed 1st and 2nd in a reverse forcast when finishing work on Monday afternoon that day best bet ever in national 😊
Great effort felt for Sunny Bay though 😢🎉❤ll
Cool ground, great heart, and determination.
Bobbyjo was a great horse! The fact pauls dad trained him is even better!
Wow what a ride Mick Fitz absolutely brilliant 👍 plus Rough Quest could of went around again Great performance by horse 🐴 an rider 👏👍✌️
a great pay day, i have 20.00 WIN on Cool Ground (ante post at 50/1 with Sunderlands), a very nice payout indeed
Great memories
Lord gyllene one of the best winners ever of the greatest race magical day ❤️
Back when the National was worth watching.
Yeah, I kind of know why you're saying that. It's as though not quite as many people are arsed about it anymore. It's under too much scrutiny now, protesters changing people's minds and fucking it up.
Hagman 🙄
Some old favourites in this
Cool ground deserved his win 🏆.
The most magical National. Felt odd on the Monday evening with no preceding Races. However Tony Dobbin with such an enterprising ride on a great equine athlete lit the Liverpool sky that night. Commentary of a stella cast, voices some long gone. Also gone are the Aintree fences, built to be jumped. Wonderful in every regard.
Another unlucky jockey in David Bridgwater just getting pipped on the line, both 1st and 2nd riders were the best in their pomp.
I had Merry People at 200-1 fell in front second last fence.
This was the 1st televised National without the great Peter O'Sullevan commentating,
This race won me the largest ever amount of money I have ever betted on a horse race, I put the bet on ante post £100 win @ 28/1 and it finished as the 14/1 winner...
Big!
That horse was having a blast the entire race! Ears perked and forward, steady and honest. Great horse.
Was unemployed at the time, put a pound on royal athlete, ive never screamed as loud watching it! I thought he ploughed through the final fence! X great memories xxx
Lorcan wyer good jockey but wasted too much energy
Suny Bay what a horse. Smith's Band :(
I loved Young Hustler. The old boy lived to 32 years of age, passed away 3 years ago. RIP
I had that at 40/1 managed too get myself too the sfa cup semi final replay with the winnings was 15 at the time 😢 time flys
Yes I put £5 on 40/1
Won with his ears pricked. I had forgot he was such an easy winner.
At least the awful Julian Wilson didn’t say dead horse again
Backed it on the Saturday, doubled the stake on the Monday.
Had a few different trainers that horse, one of them being the great Reg Akehurst.
Party politics came to late should have come sooner might have won it
